KARACHI: A judicial magistrate on Monday extended the police remand of actor Sahir Hassan for an additional day in a drug-related case.
Investigating Officer (IO) Syed Ghous Hakim presented the suspect before the judicial magistrate (South), requesting extended custody to further probe the origin of the 557 grams of weed allegedly recovered from him. He also stated that additional suspects linked to the case were yet to be apprehended and that the suspect’s criminal record needed verification.
However, the defense counsel, Faraz Fahim, opposed the request for physical custody, arguing that the suspect should be placed under judicial remand instead.
After reviewing arguments from both sides, the court granted police custody for one more day and ordered the IO to present the suspect before the court again on Tuesday (today).
According to the FIR, Inspector Aftab Abbasi reported that on February 22, police officers were searching for a proclaimed offender linked to a terrorism case. While in the jurisdiction of Gizri police station, they received a tip-off about an individual preparing to deliver weed in Khayaban-e-Rahat, Phase VI. Acting on this information, police conducted a raid, arrested Sahir Hassan, and allegedly seized five packets of weed—totalling over 500 grams—from his hand-carry bag.
