Search efforts ongoing as structure deemed hazardous
Rescue and recovery work at Karachi’s Gul Plaza has stretched into a seventh consecutive day, with authorities confirming the recovery of 67 bodies and human remains from the site so far.
Officials say search teams are still combing through the rubble to find any additional victims who may remain trapped beneath the debris.
During the night, minor fire flare-ups were reported at several points inside the building. Firefighters responded promptly and brought the situation under control, preventing the flames from spreading further.

Karachi Police Surgeon Dr. Samia Syed said that most of the recovered remains are severely burnt, complicating the process of DNA identification. Post-mortem examinations have been completed for 62 of the 67 bodies and remains recovered to date.
According to fire department officials, the main search phase is nearing completion, although clearing the remaining debris is expected to take another two to four days.
On Thursday, a joint inspection by the Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) and the Pakistan Engineering Council concluded that Gul Plaza is structurally unsafe. The technical committee has recommended demolishing the building once rescue operations are fully concluded.
Gul Plaza, spread over 8,124 square yards and housing 1,102 shops, caught fire late at night, leading to massive destruction and a heavy loss of both lives and property.
