Field Marshal Asim Munir meets top Chinese leadership during a strategic visit to Beijing.
Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Field Marshal Asim Munir has concluded a significant official visit to China, where he engaged in high-level discussions with senior Chinese military and political leaders aimed at strengthening bilateral ties and enhancing regional security cooperation.
According to a statement by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the visit marked a reaffirmation of the enduring strategic partnership between the two nations. While in Beijing, Field Marshal Munir met with Vice President Han Zheng and Foreign Minister Wang Yi, among other key officials.
Strategic Talks on Security and Cooperation
The dialogue focused on a wide range of issues, including regional peace, shifting global dynamics, and the development of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). Both nations reiterated their commitment to sovereign equality, mutual cooperation, and long-term stability in the region.
The Chinese leadership lauded the Pakistan Armed Forces as a vital contributor to peace and a key stabilizing force in South Asia. They acknowledged the Army’s steadfast role in promoting resilience and countering regional threats.
Military-Level Engagements and Defence Collaboration
On the military side, Field Marshal Munir held detailed discussions with General Zhang Youxia, Vice Chairman of China’s Central Military Commission (CMC), as well as other senior officials of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA), including General Chen Hui and Lt. General Cai Zhai Jun.
Key areas of discussion included:
- Modernisation of defence capabilities
- Joint military training programs
- Counterterrorism cooperation
- Enhanced coordination to tackle hybrid and transnational threats
The PLA reaffirmed its confidence in the strength of the China-Pakistan military relationship and praised Pakistan’s critical role in promoting stability in the broader region.
Commitment to Deepening Defence Ties
Field Marshal Munir thanked the Chinese leadership for their continued support and reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening defense cooperation across all domains.
A guard of honor was presented to the COAS at PLA Army Headquarters, symbolizing the mutual respect and enduring friendship between the two militaries.
“The visit highlights the growing depth of military-political engagement between Pakistan and China and reflects their shared resolve to promote peace through sustained dialogue and cooperation,” ISPR stated.
China Backs Pakistan’s Anti-Terror Drive
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, in his meeting with Field Marshal Munir, praised the Pakistani military’s role as a defender of national interests and a reliable partner in China-Pakistan relations.
Wang reiterated China’s support for Pakistan’s efforts to combat terrorism in all forms, emphasizing the importance of ensuring the safety of Chinese personnel, projects, and institutions operating within Pakistan.
He stressed the need to further implement the key consensus reached by the leadership of both countries and deepen all-weather strategic cooperation for the benefit of both peoples and the broader region.
Pakistan Reaffirms Support for Chinese Interests
Field Marshal Munir expressed deep appreciation for China’s longstanding support in Pakistan’s socio-economic development. He emphasized that cooperation with China enjoys consensus across Pakistani society and assured continued efforts to protect Chinese interests within Pakistan.
He also reaffirmed Pakistan’s readiness to boost joint counterterrorism measures and to safeguard the lives and assets of Chinese citizens working in the country.
