ISLAMABAD (Hayat News)— The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has achieved major breakthroughs in two distinct operations aimed at tackling high-level financial fraud and apprehending violent fugitives.
In a determined anti-corruption campaign, the FIA’s Anti-Corruption Circle in Islamabad apprehended two suspects — Imdad Ali, a principal appraiser at Pakistan Customs, and his associate Sabir Ali. Both individuals are accused of extensive financial misconduct that reportedly caused a loss of over PKR 814 million to the national treasury.
Initial investigations revealed that between 2019 and 2021, Sabir Ali’s company imported 29 consignments of American-branded ice cream using fraudulent and under-invoiced documents. This large-scale scheme was allegedly facilitated by customs officer Imdad Ali. Following the cancellation of their pre-arrest bail by a special central court, the two suspects were taken into custody for further questioning.
In a separate operation, FIA’s Immigration unit in Sialkot, working closely with Interpol, successfully apprehended three fugitives wanted for severe crimes, including murder and attempted murder. The individuals — Aftab Afzal, Arman Goraya, and Muhammad Amin — were detained in the United Arab Emirates and deported to Pakistan via Sialkot Airport. These arrests were the result of collaborative efforts between Interpol Abu Dhabi, Interpol Islamabad, and FIA Immigration Sialkot.
Aftab Afzal was wanted for a 2022 murder case in Gujranwala’s Cantonment Police jurisdiction, while Arman Goraya was a suspect in a 2024 murder case filed by Alipur Chattha Police. Muhammad Amin faced charges of attempted murder related to a 2020 case at Saddar Police Station, Toba Tek Singh. Upon their arrival, FIA handed the suspects over to Punjab Police for further legal proceedings.
A Federal Investigation Agency spokesperson emphasized that these operations demonstrate the agency’s unwavering commitment to combating both financial crimes and violent criminal activity, ensuring that offenders are brought to justice through effective coordination and decisive action.
