Official documents reviewed by Wealth Pakistan indicate that the project is being jointly financed by the federal and Sindh governments, reflecting its national and provincial importance.
For the 2025–26 fiscal year, the federal government initially earmarked Rs3.209 billion for the project, which was later increased to Rs8.209 billion. The Ministry of Water Resources is also considering further enhancements through internal budgetary adjustments to maintain construction momentum.
Under the revised funding framework, Sindh’s contribution stands at Rs8.503 billion, as outlined in the modified revised PC-I. Meanwhile, work is underway on a second revised PC-I, currently under scrutiny at the Ministry of Water Resources. Once finalized, it will be forwarded to the Ministry of Planning, Development, and Special Initiatives for approval by ECNEC.
To support testing and commissioning, the project requires a dedicated 50-megawatt power supply. The Sindh Transmission and Dispatch Company is developing the necessary transmission line, with officials emphasizing that aligning power availability with the project timeline is essential for smooth operations.
Recognized as one of Karachi’s most vital infrastructure developments, the K-IV project is expected to substantially improve bulk water supply and address the needs of the city’s rapidly growing population.
Authorities have reaffirmed their resolve to complete the project within the planned timeframe, stressing the importance of close coordination between federal and provincial bodies to ensure uninterrupted funding and utility support.
