Islamabad, AJK President, Barrister Sultan Mahmood Chaudhry, called on the Kashmiri diaspora in the UK to play a vital role in exposing the ongoing brutalities against the Kashmiri people by Indian forces in the occupied region.

During a meeting with Zahoor Ahmed, Councilor of Luton City Council, Barrister Chaudhry emphasized that the situation in Indian-occupied Kashmir has worsened since the Indian government revoked Articles 370 and 35A, which had granted special status to the territory. He said the recently held elections were merely a façade to present a false image of normalcy in the conflict-ridden region.

“Kashmiris are being mercilessly killed by Indian forces daily,” the AJK president stated, highlighting the ongoing violence. He further noted that thousands of Kashmiris, including Hurriyat leaders, have been unjustly imprisoned under sedition laws, far from their homes. Chaudhry called on Kashmir in the UK and around the world to raise their voices in support of Kashmir’s right to self-determination and to expose the Modi regime’s oppressive policies.

He stressed that resolving the Kashmir issue in line with United Nations Security Council resolutions is essential for improving the political and human rights situation in the region. Expressing concern about the persecution of religious minorities in India, Chaudhry said that the Modi government is targeting not only Muslims in Kashmir but also minorities within India. He also accused India of engaging in terrorist activities abroad, including in Canada and Pakistan.

Barrister Chaudhry urged the Kashmir expatriates to step up their efforts to advocate for a peaceful settlement of the Kashmir conflict. On this occasion, Luton City Councilor Zahoor Ahmed praised the Kashmir diaspora’s efforts in promoting the Kashmiri cause globally. He also invited President Chaudhry to address the Luton City Council, a request which the president accepted.
