The campaign focuses on saving lives through a balanced approach that blends awareness with enforcement. Under the new policy, riders caught without helmets are not immediately issued fines. Instead, they are advised to purchase and wear a helmet on the spot, according to an official statement.
Officers are actively engaging motorcyclists, highlighting the dangers of riding without protective gear and explaining how head injuries often prove fatal in traffic accidents. The campaign’s standard operating procedure states that if a rider buys and wears a helmet immediately, no challan will be issued. However, repeat offenders will face penalties under traffic laws to ensure compliance and maintain discipline on the roads.
Authorities stressed that the purpose of the drive is preventive rather than punitive. Studies indicate that head trauma remains one of the leading causes of death and long-term disability in road crashes, while certified helmets significantly lower the risk of severe or fatal injuries.
As part of the outreach effort, awareness sessions are being organized at key locations. Pamphlets are being distributed, banners are displayed, and media platforms are utilized to spread the message about responsible riding.
The initiative has received positive feedback from the public, with many describing it as a constructive and citizen-friendly move to enhance road safety. The motorway police have urged all motorcyclists to consistently wear standard-quality helmets and treat adherence to traffic rules as both a personal duty and a social obligation.
