ISLAMABAD (Hayat News) – Pakistan has voiced strong support for the United Nations General Assembly resolution passed on Wednesday, calling for Israel to withdraw from Palestinian territories and the establishment of a sovereign Palestinian state.
Addressing her weekly press briefing, Foreign Office spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch condemned the ongoing violence in Gaza. “The genocide in Gaza must stop. Civilians are being indiscriminately targeted, including in food distribution centers, hospitals, and refugee shelters. This grave humanitarian crisis demands urgent international attention,” she stated.
On regional issues, Baloch expressed concern over escalating tensions in Syria, warning that the deteriorating situation could further destabilize the region and embolden terrorist groups. She called for concerted international efforts to de-escalate the conflict while ensuring Syria’s unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.
The spokesperson also condemned India’s recent actions in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), particularly the confiscation of properties belonging to 13 individuals in Kishtwar District. “These actions are part of a larger campaign to intimidate and suppress Kashmiris, penalizing them for their political dissent. We urge India to halt these practices and fulfill its international obligations as an occupying power,” she asserted.
Baloch reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to providing political, diplomatic, and moral support to the Kashmiri people, advocating for a peaceful resolution to the Jammu and Kashmir dispute in line with UN Security Council resolutions.
Diplomatic Highlights of the Week
During the briefing, the spokesperson shed light on significant diplomatic activities. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif recently attended the One Water Summit in Saudi Arabia on December 3-4. In his address, he emphasized the urgent need for strong global leadership to address the water crisis, which poses an existential threat to nations worldwide. He proposed a six-point agenda to tackle water-related challenges. On the sidelines, he held bilateral meetings with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and French President Emmanuel Macron.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar participated in the 28th Council of Ministers meeting of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) in Mashhad, Iran. In his speech, he reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to the ECO Vision 2025 and signed the ECO Charter of Clean Energy Center, aimed at advancing renewable energy solutions to combat climate change.
Baloch also discussed the outcomes of the 9th Pakistan-Russia Intergovernmental Commission meeting held in Moscow from December 2-4. The discussions covered energy, education, medicine, trade, and technological cooperation, culminating in the signing of eight bilateral agreements to enhance collaboration across various sectors.
