The European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) has officially lifted the ban on Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flights to Europe, Defence and Aviation Minister Khawaja Asif announced on Friday.
In a post shared on X, Asif expressed his excitement, stating: “It is a momentous day as the European Commission and EASA have lifted the suspension on PIA flights to Europe.”
The minister credited the development to the dedicated efforts of the Aviation Ministry in enhancing the Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority’s (PCAA) compliance with International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) safety standards.
Highlighting the measures taken under the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government, Asif noted: “Our government has implemented critical reforms, including the enactment of the PCAA Act, separation of regulatory and service functions, appointment of professional leadership, and extensive capacity-building through training.”
Asif also expressed gratitude to the European Commission and EASA for ensuring a transparent review process, reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to maintaining the highest standards of aviation safety.
