Mobile alerts notify parents and heirs to complete official registration process

The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has launched a new automated system to make birth and death registration faster, transparent, and technology-driven. Developed in collaboration with provincial governments, the initiative aligns with the Federal Interior Ministry’s vision to modernize citizen registration services.

Under the National Biometric and Registration Policy Framework, approved by the Prime Minister earlier this year, NADRA has installed digital registration systems in over 50 hospitals and health centres across Pakistan. These include major facilities like PIMS, CDA, and FG hospitals in Islamabad, Lady Aitchison Hospital in Lahore, and hospitals in Quetta, KP, AJK, GB, and Sindh.

Through this system, hospitals are directly linked to NADRA for real-time reporting of births and deaths. Upon record entry, parents or heirs receive instant mobile app and SMS notifications, guiding them to complete the regis-trationprocess at their local Union Council.

So far, NADRA has recorded 4,000 birth and 407 death notifications nationwide through the new mechanism. Citizens can register events either via the NADRA mobile app or by visiting nearby Union Councils.

The pilot, initially launched in three Punjab districts, will soon expand nationwide, covering both public and private hospitals. Once provincial systems are fully aligned, direct Union Council registration will become operational, ensuring seamless integration between health facilities, NADRA, and local administrations.

Officials say the move marks a major step toward digital governance, helping to eliminate delays, curb data tampering, and strengthen Pakistan’s national identity and population records.
