Religious scholar Engineer Mirza, who was recently detained at Adiala Jail before securing bail in a blasphemy-related case, has disclosed details about the daily life and behaviour of PTI founder Imran Khan during his incarceration.
In an interview with a private television channel, Engineer Mirza said that contrary to widespread claims, the former prime minister is not being provided with “palace-like” amenities. However, he noted that Khan does have access to information from outside the prison, including two daily newspapers and an LED television in his cell.
According to Mirza, Imran Khan appeared visibly frustrated during his time in jail, a reaction he described as understandable given the nearly two years the PTI leader has spent behind bars. He added that such prolonged detention could take a toll on anyone.

Mirza said six barracks had been allocated for Khan’s use, with five reserved for his personal space and one assigned to his attendant. He claimed that Khan typically stepped out of his barrack twice a day — around 9am for breakfast and at 3pm for lunch.
He further stated that the attendant prepared meals using desi ghee, with the smell often drifting through nearby cells. Mirza also remarked that when angered, Khan tended to speak loudly and at length.
These comments have once again sparked public discussion about the nature of the facilities and treatment provided to the PTI founder at Adiala Jail.
Mirza’s remarks followed his release on bail after the Rawalpindi Bench of the Lahore High Court granted him relief in a blasphemy case registered in Jhelum. On December 3, 2025, Justice Sadaqat Ali Khan approved his bail application and ordered the submission of two surety bonds worth Rs500,000 each. After fulfilling the bail conditions, Mirza was released from custody in early December.
Earlier, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf had written to the chairman of the Senate, calling for the immediate formation of a parliamentary committee to examine what the party described as the “solitary confinement” and alleged violations of the fundamental rights of Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, at Adiala Jail.
In its letter, the party argued that senators were constitutionally authorised to review the detention conditions of any citizen, particularly those of a former prime minister and a sitting member of the National Assembly.
