Mirpur (Hayat News) A joint meeting of the administration, public health department, municipal corporation and agriculture department officers was held under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Yasir Riaz regarding the fight against dengue virus. The meeting was attended by Mayor Municipal Corporation Chaudhry Usman Ali Khalid, District Health Officer Dr. Fida Hussain Raja, Additional DHO Dr. CDC Dr. Shumaila Karan, Deputy Director Agriculture Asif Jamil, Divisional Information Officer Muhammad Javed Malik, SD Municipality Raja Jawad Ahmed and CDC Focal Person Zafar Iqbal.
While giving a briefing in the meeting, District Health Officer Dr. Fida Hussain Raja and Additional District Health Officer CDC Dr. Shumaila Karan said that 382 tests of dengue virus patients have been conducted in Mirpur district so far, out of which 74 were found positive. At present, no one in the district has tested positive for the virus. No patient is admitted to the hospital.
While 5 patients are isolated at home. He further said that dengue is a viral infection that spreads through the breeding and bite of a special type of female mosquito. The Public Health Department has started a spray campaign to prevent dengue mosquito.
In this regard, anti-dengue spraying has been started in Mirpur city in collaboration with the Municipal Corporation and the Agriculture Department. The public should cooperate in preventing the breeding of dengue mosquito larvae. They should not let clean water stand in their homes. Do not go out during sunrise and sunset and dress children in full-sleeved clothes. He said that the initial symptoms of dengue are mild cold and fever in 90% of patients. Moderate symptoms include severe pain behind the eyes, itching and red spots on the skin, severe pain in the bones and joints, while the most important symptoms are redness of the face, difficulty breathing, and bleeding from the gums.
Symptoms start appearing within 2 to 6 days of a mosquito bite. If these symptoms appear, an immediate check-up should be done at the nearest health center. Deputy Commissioner Yasir Riaz directed officers of the Public Health Department, CDC, Municipal Corporation and Agriculture Department to spray anti-dengue virus throughout the city and district to prevent the breeding of dengue mosquitoes. Cleanliness and sanitation should be ensured to eliminate dengue mosquito larvae. The municipality and other institutions should fulfill their responsibilities in this regard.
Cleanliness and sanitation will be ensured in urban settlements, commercial areas, roads, parks, police stations, cemeteries, flower pots, tires and other nearby places so that mosquitoes cannot breed from dengue mosquito larvae. Dengue mosquito breeding can be controlled by implementing preventive and protective measures against the dengue virus.
Do not allow standing water to accumulate in and around urban homes, such as on roofs, pots, drains, food containers, tire scraps, bird feeders, and other open areas. Keep water collection containers such as pitchers, drums, tanks, etc. covered. Do not allow water to leak from water supply lines and sewer lines. Dispose of old tires and disposable materials immediately. Keep your surroundings dry and clean. Prevent the entry of mosquitoes by installing nets on the windows and doors of government offices, houses and buildings.
Mayor Municipal Corporation Chaudhry Usman Ali Khalid said that anti-dengue spraying, including cleaning and sanitation, is being carried out across the city under the auspices of the Municipal Corporation. In this regard, an awareness campaign is also being launched in all the wards of the city with the cooperation of councilors, while checking is also being done to ensure that the public takes protective measures by visiting the breeding places of the dengue virus. He further said that the process of fogging spraying is also underway across the city.
