Mirpur (Hayat News) In light of the special instructions of Secretary Agriculture, Livestock, Irrigation and Small Dams Chaudhry Imtiaz Ahmad and Director General Livestock Dr. Muhammad Ijaz Khan, check posts have been set up and staff have been deployed at Mangla, Jatlan and Dhan Gali bridge entrances of the district to prevent the spread of foot-and-mouth disease in Mirpur district.
According to the details, Additional Principal Veterinary Officer/Assistant Director Animal Health and Veterinary Services District Mirpur Dr. Khalid Qayyum Butt made a surprise inspection of the check posts of the Livestock Department set up at Mangla and Jatlan bridge and reviewed the performance of the staff on duty and observed the process of scrutiny of animals brought from outside Azad Kashmir.
He strictly directed the staff to fully implement the given instructions. Speaking on the occasion, he said that cattle across the country Reports of people being infected with foot-and-mouth disease are being received.
Free vaccination against this disease has been being done across Azad Kashmir for the past three years, however, there is a fear of the disease spreading due to the arrival of animals from outside Azad Kashmir. In view of this, check posts have been set up at all entry points and staff have been posted on them, and instructions have been issued that animals infected with foot-and-mouth disease should not be allowed to enter the borders of Azad Kashmir and all animals should be allowed to enter only after showing the vaccination certificate. He said that teams have been formed under the leadership of veterinary officers in this regard and the staff of the Livestock Department is always present and performing their duties.
He has also appealed to the public to cooperate with the staff of the Livestock Department in this regard and ask for a vaccine certificate from the trader while buying animals. Also, do not buy animals with signs of the disease at all.
He further said that in case of any animal showing signs of disease, they should contact the nearest veterinary center for treatment and get healthy animals vaccinated. On this occasion, Dr. Saqib Shafiq, Veterinary Officer, Jatlan, Zia-ul-Haq, Supervisor, Lahri, and Muhammad Jawad Shafiq, Stock Assistant, Jatlan were also present.
