KP CM Ready to Resign at Imran Khan’s Command, Says Spokesperson
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has completed preparations for its nationwide protest campaign scheduled for August 5, according to senior party leader and former National Assembly speaker Asad Qaiser.
Addressing a joint press conference alongside Shahram Khan Tarakai in Swabi on Sunday, Qaiser emphasized that the demonstrations will be peaceful and in line with constitutional and legal boundaries.
The protest is aimed at demanding justice and a fair trial for PTI founder and former prime minister Imran Khan, who remains incarcerated in multiple cases since being removed from office through a no-confidence vote in April 2022.
“August 5 is symbolic for us. It marks the arrest of our leader, which was a decisive moment in our political journey,” Qaiser stated. “Our movement is about justice, not confrontation. Imran Khan deserves an impartial trial based on merit.”
He also reiterated that Imran Khan is unwilling to strike any deal for his release, asserting that it could happen “within an hour” if he agreed to compromise—something he refuses to do.
Qaiser further highlighted the significance of regional trade, especially with Afghanistan, for economic stability in Pakistan.
KP Government Stands by PTI Leadership
Meanwhile, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government spokesperson Faraz Mughal affirmed that Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur is fully aligned with the PTI founder’s directives. “The chief minister will step down the moment Imran Khan instructs him to do so,” Mughal said.
This statement comes in the wake of reports suggesting Imran Khan has demanded Gandapur’s resignation if he fails to maintain law and order in KP. According to party insiders quoted by Geo News, Imran remarked that leadership should be handed over to someone else if Gandapur cannot resolve governance and security issues.
Mughal, however, clarified that no official instruction regarding the CM’s resignation has been issued by Imran Khan.
Terrorism on the Rise in KP
Security remains a serious concern in KP. A police report cited by Geo News revealed that the province faced 476 terrorism incidents in the first seven months of 2025 alone. These attacks resulted in 121 civilian deaths and left 301 injured.
The security forces also bore heavy losses: 66 police officers were martyred and 90 wounded; 10 Levies personnel lost their lives with 8 injured; the Frontier Corps (FC) suffered 48 fatalities and 109 injuries; while 55 members of other security agencies were killed and 112 injured during the same period.
The PTI leadership continues to tie the restoration of peace and governance with the party’s broader political mission as it prepares for a major show of strength on August 5.
