Emergency Declared at DHQ Hospital Wana; Police Officers Among the Wounded

WANA: A remote-controlled explosion targeting a police vehicle rocked the Rustam Bazar area of Lower South Waziristan on Thursday, killing two individuals and injuring 14 others, according to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Imran Ullah.

Among the wounded were two police officers. In response to the blast, an emergency was declared at the District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital in Wana to treat the victims.

The deadly incident came just a day after three Frontier Constabulary (FC) personnel were killed in a separate attack when gunmen opened fire on their vehicle in the Garagri area of Karak, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

In another tragic event, a Pakistan Army major and two soldiers were martyred in an IED attack carried out by India-backed militants in the Mastung district of Balochistan. The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) reported that the attack took place during the night between August 5 and 6, with the ambush linked to the Indian proxy group Fitna al-Hindustan.

The fallen soldiers were identified as Major Muhammad Rizwan Tahir, Naik Ibni Amin, and Lance Naik Muhammad Younas.

These attacks highlight a recent uptick in violence across Pakistan, particularly in regions bordering Afghanistan, such as Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.

However, a recent report by the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS), an Islamabad-based think tank, noted a slight drop in terrorist activities in June. The report recorded 78 militant attacks that month, resulting in 100 fatalities—including 53 security personnel, 39 civilians, six militants, and two members of local peace committees. Additionally, 189 individuals were injured, with security forces accounting for 126 of those wounded.
