Imran Khan’s nephew, Shershah Khan, walked out of Kot Lakhpat jail on Friday following bail granted by Lahore’s anti-terrorism court (ATC) in the Jinnah House attack case linked to the May 9, 2023 riots.
A day earlier, his brother and triathlete, Shahrez Khan, had also secured bail and was released.
Shershah, son of Imran’s sister Aleema Khan, was taken into custody on August 22 outside his residence. He was first placed on a five-day physical remand, then sent to jail on a 14-day judicial remand starting August 28.
His lawyer, Advocate Rana Mudassar Umer, confirmed the release, also sharing a post and photo on X with his co-counsel and client.
During Tuesday’s hearing, ATC Judge Manzer Ali Gill presided over proceedings where Umer argued that no case record had been presented by the prosecution despite repeated delays. He stressed that no evidence tied Shershah to the riots, adding that others facing more serious charges had already been granted bail.
The defense further claimed Shershah was implicated only due to his relation to the PTI founder, describing the recovery of a cane cited by the prosecution as “fabricated.”
Accepting the post-arrest bail plea, Judge Gill ordered Shershah’s release against a surety bond of Rs100,000, provided he is not wanted in any other case.
