Dera Ismail Khan: Security forces in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa foiled a terrorist attack on Saturday, killing one militant and injuring two others associated with the outlawed Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).
According to a police statement, the attackers targeted a police unit returning from duty in the Takwara area, ambushing them near Malang within the Hathala Police Station limits. Officers responded with force, successfully repelling the attack.
In the exchange of fire, a key operative from the TTP’s Gandapur faction was neutralized, while two others sustained injuries. The operation was led by District Police Officer Sajjad Ahmed Sahibzada, who, along with senior police officials, initiated a follow-up search and strike operation to locate the fleeing suspects.
Inspector General of Police Zulfiqar Hameed praised the swift and brave action of the Dera Police, commending their courage and announcing cash rewards for those involved in the operation. He reaffirmed the police force’s commitment to pursuing terrorists relentlessly to ensure peace across KP.
Terror incidents have surged in Pakistan—particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan—since the TTP unilaterally ended its ceasefire with the government in November 2022. Security forces and law enforcement personnel have become frequent targets.
Just two months ago, KP experienced a wave of attacks in districts including Peshawar, Karak, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, and Bajaur. Despite an increased security presence, particularly in Lakki Marwat, militant violence continues unabated, challenging efforts by local peace committees to restore stability.
