ISLAMABAD: A horrifying mugging incident near a popular fast-food restaurant outside F-9 Park, Islamabad, has sent shockwaves across the capital. A group of women was allegedly assaulted and robbed of 10 tolas of gold jewellery and Rs2 million in cash.

Disturbing video footage of the attack, which surfaced on social media, shows the assailants violently dragging the women by their hair and physically assaulting them. The incident has sparked widespread outrage, raising serious concerns about public safety.

According to the First Information Report (FIR) registered at Margalla Police Station, the main suspect, identified as Jamal, along with his accomplices, intercepted the victims on February 23. The assailants brutally attacked the women before forcibly taking their valuables and fleeing the scene.

Islamabad police confirmed that immediate action was taken following the filing of the FIR. The primary suspect was arrested, and authorities secured a three-day physical remand for further investigation. After interrogations, law enforcement recovered the stolen jewellery and cash and presented a charge sheet in court. The accused has since been placed in judicial custody.

The case has been registered under multiple sections of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC), including:

  • Section 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention)
  • Section 341 (punishment for wrongful restraint)
  • Section 354 (assault or criminal force to a woman with intent to outrage her modesty)
  • Section 392 (punishment for robbery)
  • Section 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation)

Authorities assured that efforts are ongoing to apprehend any remaining suspects involved in the crime.

In her statement to the police, complainant Hajra Mushtaq recounted the terrifying ordeal. She and her daughters were outside a fast-food outlet around 7:45 pm when a high-end vehicle pulled up in front of their car. The driver, later identified as Jamal, and his accomplices approached them, attempting to seize their vehicle while brandishing a pistol.

“When I intervened and tried to reason with him, Jamal and his friends subjected us to a vicious assault. They dragged me and my daughters by our hair, beat us ruthlessly, and tore my young daughter’s clothes,” she stated in the FIR.

She further added that the assailants forcibly took their handbags, which contained Rs2 million in cash and 10 tolas of gold. “They also threatened to kill us before fleeing the scene.”

Eyewitnesses captured the incident on video, which has been submitted to the police as evidence. The case continues to unfold as authorities work to bring all perpetrators to justice.
