ISLAMABAD : Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday emphasized the need for unified efforts to raise awareness about breast cancer and promote early detection, especially among women.
Highlighting that breast-cancer is the most prevalent form of cancer affecting women globally, the Prime Minister pointed out that a significant number of deaths occur in low and middle-income countries, including Pakistan.
In his message on International Breast Cancer Awareness Day, the Prime Minister acknowledged the challenges in providing adequate screening and treatment facilities for breast-cancer. However, he stressed that these issues could be addressed through a strong focus on early detection.
“Early-stage breast cancer has a 98% chance of complete recovery,” he said, urging women to regularly perform self-examinations for early signs.
He recognized the positive impact of awareness campaigns in Pakistan, which have led to an increase in early-stage breast-cancer reporting. The Prime Minister also praised the media for its vital role in spreading awareness and called on all stakeholders, especially media outlets, to enhance efforts for a coordinated national campaign.
“With collective action, we can reduce breast cancer mortality in Pakistan and offer hope for a healthier future for all women,” the Prime Minister said.
