PTI Committee Weighs Cancelling Protest March Amid Legal and Internal Challenges

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) political committee held a meeting last night to discuss critical developments, including the possibility of cancelling the planned protest march on November 24 following a ruling by the Islamabad High Court (IHC) and the controversy surrounding a statement by Bushra Bibi.

According to insiders who attended the meeting, a majority of committee members leaned toward calling off the protest march. They argued that engaging in dialogue with the government could be a more constructive approach in light of the IHC decision. The committee resolved to present this suggestion to the party’s imprisoned chairman, Imran Khan, for his final decision.

A delegation of PTI leaders attempted to meet Khan at Adiala Jail to convey the committee’s recommendation but was unable to do so. Subsequently, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur convened a meeting with party leaders in Peshawar to further deliberate on the protest plan.

Barrister Saif, an adviser to the KP Chief Minister, confirmed ongoing discussions within the party about challenging the IHC verdict, although he clarified that he is not part of the political committee.

The controversy over Bushra Bibi’s remarks about Saudi Arabia also featured prominently in the meeting. Sources revealed that most committee members expressed dissatisfaction with her statement. While some leaders suggested that the party publicly distance itself from her remarks, no consensus was reached on the matter. Others proposed allowing Bushra Bibi to defend her comments independently, but the issue remained unresolved.
