ISLAMABAD: In a surprise operation on Golra Road, the Islamabad Food Authority (IFA) seized 160 kilograms of unhygienic and unstamped meat, deeming it unfit for human consumption.
The inspection, led by the IFA’s Meat Safety Team on Sunday, uncovered meat being transported without the required slaughterhouse stamp and stored in poor sanitary conditions. The entire quantity was immediately destroyed on-site.
Deputy Director of Operations Dr. Tahira Siddique said the meat emitted a strong foul smell and violated food safety protocols, including improper storage and failure to maintain temperature standards as per the authority’s Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
“The meat posed a serious risk to public health. Such violations will not be tolerated,” Dr. Siddique stated, adding that the IFA has been carrying out unannounced inspections citywide to curb the circulation of unsafe meat.
She reaffirmed the authority’s commitment to public safety, promising that daily checks and immediate action will continue. “Our goal is to make the availability of unsafe meat in Islamabad impossible,” she said.
The IFA encouraged residents to report any suspicious activity related to meat sales or transport through its helpline or online complaint system. Citizens were also urged to buy meat only from certified vendors and licensed outlets.
The authority confirmed that more surprise inspections are planned, and strict penalties will be imposed on violators as part of its ongoing mission to ensure safe and hygienic food in the capital.
