United Nations: Tensions flared at the UN Security Council as Pakistan strongly condemned Israel’s recent strike in Doha, calling it a blatant violation of international law and an attack on peace efforts.
Pakistan’s UN envoy, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, rebuked Israel for “masking its illegal actions” and accused it of being an “occupier and serial violator” of international law. He said Israel consistently defies the UN, ICJ, ICC, and humanitarian bodies while hiding behind its allies.
Rejecting Israel’s attempt to invoke the US raid on Osama bin Laden as justification, Ambassador Ahmad stressed that Pakistan’s role in combating terrorism is globally acknowledged, with Al Qaeda largely dismantled due to Pakistan’s efforts. He accused Israel of committing “state terrorism” in Gaza and occupied Palestinian territories.
Israel’s Ambassador Danny Dannon defended the Doha strike, declaring that “there is no immunity for terrorists,” and warned Qatar to expel Hamas or face consequences.
Qatar’s Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani denounced the September 9 strike on a Doha residential compound housing negotiators and their families, calling it a “violation of sovereignty” and a deliberate attempt to sabotage ceasefire and hostage talks. He said Israel was destabilizing the region and undermining diplomacy.
Ambassador Ahmad warned that targeting mediators and negotiations showed Israel’s intent to derail peace and prolong suffering. He criticized the Council’s weak response, which he said had emboldened Israel.
