ISLAMABAD (Hayat News): Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry announced on Thursday that Pakistan is sending an additional 200 tons of humanitarian assistance to Sri Lanka to support communities hit by the recent cyclonic storm.
He said the decision followed his discussions with Sri Lankan leadership in Colombo and an on-ground assessment of the damage, which showed that greater assistance is needed to meet the medium-term requirements of affected families, according to a press release.
Chaudhry confirmed that a relief vessel carrying 200 tons of essential supplies has already departed by sea and is scheduled to reach Sri Lanka on December 13.
“The shipment includes tents, blankets, quilts, mosquito nets, camping lamps, floor mats, life jackets, inflatable boats, dewatering pumps, medicines, milk powder, and ready-to-use therapeutic food,” he said.
He added that Pakistan Navy ships and aviation units are actively participating in relief operations in Sri Lanka, helping with rescue missions, transportation, and emergency support. Naval personnel are coordinating closely with local authorities to assist communities in the worst-affected regions.
The minister visited Sri Lanka on the instructions of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to express Pakistan’s solidarity in the wake of Cyclonic Storm Ditwah. Junaid Chaudhry reaffirmed that Pakistan stands ready to continue supporting Sri Lanka’s recovery from the humanitarian and infrastructural losses.
