ISLAMABAD (Hayat News): The Islamabad Transport Authority (ITA) has released its 15-day performance update for the ongoing vehicle emission testing campaign, reporting inspections of 6,254 vehicles and the issuance of an equal number of emission clearance stickers. During this period, action was also taken against 12 vehicles found emitting excessive smoke.
According to the authority, inspection teams issued 486 emission stickers in the past 24 hours alone as checks continued at multiple locations across the capital. The initiative forms part of broader efforts to curb air pollution through routine inspections, roadside enforcement, and the expansion of testing points throughout the city.
The ITA stated that the emission testing system remains fully operational, with daily inspections and enforcement measures targeting vehicles that violate environmental standards. The performance report outlines inspection figures, sticker distribution, and enforcement actions carried out over the last two weeks, while also pointing to plans aimed at improving public access to testing facilities.
Officials explained that emission stickers are issued only to vehicles that successfully meet prescribed standards, confirming their eligibility to operate on Islamabad’s roads. The steady issuance of stickers, including hundreds distributed daily, reflects the consistent pace of the campaign.
Enforcement remained a key focus, with 12 smoke-emitting vehicles impounded and shifted to police stations for further proceedings under relevant regulations. Authorities said such measures are essential to ensure compliance and deter the use of polluting vehicles.
An ITA spokesperson said inspection teams continue to operate across major roads and high-traffic areas, identifying smoke-emitting vehicles and guiding motorists on emission testing requirements. He added that inspections are being conducted regularly to expand coverage and maintain momentum.
Roadside checks are ongoing along key highways and main routes, enabling teams to inspect vehicles during peak traffic hours. The report also noted effective coordination among teams deployed in different sectors of Islamabad, with assigned routes and schedules ensuring uninterrupted citywide coverage and the collection of daily compliance data.
Alongside enforcement, teams have been raising awareness by informing drivers about the importance of emission testing and the procedure for obtaining stickers. Officials said on-site guidance encourages voluntary compliance and helps motorists better understand environmental requirements.
The ITA has called on vehicle owners to cooperate with inspection teams and ensure timely emission testing. Officials emphasized that compliance plays a vital role in reducing air pollution, protecting public health, and avoiding penalties or delays during roadside inspections.
