The protesters said the global community should not overlook developments in Kashmir amid India’s international diplomatic engagements and official ceremonies.
Carrying banners and chanting slogans outside the parliament building, participants argued that diplomatic honors could not divert attention from alleged human rights abuses in Kashmir and against minority groups in India.
Speakers at the rally criticized the Indian government’s policies, accusing it of increasing pressure on Muslims and other minorities under what they described as a Hindutva-based political agenda.
The demonstrators said the Kashmir issue remained an important human rights matter affecting millions of people whose political freedoms and voices had long been restricted.
They called on Norway and the international community to go beyond symbolic diplomacy and focus on what they termed ongoing militarization, arrests, and limitations on freedoms in the disputed territory.
Protesters also stated that Kashmiris continued to uphold their identity and demand for self-determination despite years of political pressure and security measures.
They added that the struggle for political rights and dignity in Kashmir would continue to gain attention around the world.
