MIRPUR (AJK): In a crackdown against profiteering and hoarding on the first day of Ramzan, authorities in Mirpur arrested at least 20 shopkeepers and vendors for overcharging and stockpiling essential edibles. The surprise inspection was conducted by local administration officials across several busy marketplaces in the city.
Assistant Commissioner Raja Zahid Hussain Khan, along with Tehsildar Imran Yusuf and Naib Tehsildar Raja Ejaz Ahmed, led the operation with police support. They visited key locations, including the Ramadan Sasta Bazaar, Nangi Vegetable Market, F-One, and Old Changi, where they discovered multiple cases of overpricing and hoarding.
Strict action was taken against vendors selling essential goods at inflated rates and providing substandard items. More than 20 individuals were detained for violating the officially fixed price list.
Assistant Commissioner Raja Zahid Hussain Khan emphasized that ensuring the availability of quality and fairly priced goods for the public during Ramzan remains a top priority. He assured that the administration would continue its efforts against profiteering and hoarding without discrimination.
To address public concerns, a special complaint cell has been established at the vegetable and fruit market. Meanwhile, Tehsildar Mirpur Imran Yusuf urged citizens to verify official price lists before making purchases and to report any violations immediately. He reassured the public that stringent measures are being taken to stabilize prices during Ramzan for their convenience.
