Former Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Senator Mushtaq Ahmad, who was detained by Israeli forces last week while participating in a humanitarian flotilla bound for Gaza, has safely returned to Pakistan.
He arrived at Islamabad Airport on Thursday to a warm reception from supporters, party members, and well-wishers.
According to Pakistan’s Embassy in Jordan, Mushtaq Ahmad was released from Israeli custody and facilitated in his return home through diplomatic efforts led by Pakistan and Jordan.
The mission, acting under instructions from Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Ishaq Dar, coordinated all necessary arrangements for his safe repatriation.
Foreign Minister Dar personally thanked his Jordanian counterpart, Ayman Safadi, during a phone conversation for his government’s role in securing Ahmad’s release. Both ministers reaffirmed their commitment to deepening Pakistan-Jordan cooperation for regional peace and stability.
Mushtaq Ahmad was among hundreds of international activists who joined a flotilla in late August, organized to challenge Israel’s blockade of Gaza. The convoy was intercepted by Israeli forces, leading to the detention of more than 450 participants, most of whom have since been deported.
The incident comes amid Israel’s ongoing offensive in Gaza, which has claimed over 66,000 Palestinian lives — including thousands of women and children — drawing global condemnation and renewed calls to end the violence and siege.
