According to the sources, an armed member of a terrorist organisation attempting to infiltrate from Afghanistan was arrested, while other members of the group failed to cross the border.

The sources identified the arrested Afghan militant as Qari Waqas, alias Qadoos, reportedly belonging to Spin Ghar, Afghanistan. During interrogation, the suspect revealed that he had been attempting to enter Pakistan to join the Khariji Kazim Group.

Security sources said a search of the suspect led to the recovery of a submachine gun, four magazines and 88 rounds of ammunition. A notebook containing notes about various locations and bomb-making techniques was also recovered from his possession.

Further interrogation of Qari Waqas is under way to obtain information about his network and other possible associates, the sources said.

Upper Kurram, which borders Afghanistan, has long been a sensitive area for cross-border movement, and security forces maintain a close watch on infiltration routes in the district.

According to the sources, the group had attempted to cross into Pakistan from Afghanistan when security forces moved in. The arrested man was taken into custody at the scene, while the other members of the group were unable to cross the border and did not enter Pakistani territory.

The recovery from the suspect included a submachine gun, four magazines and 88 rounds of ammunition, along with a notebook. Security sources said the notebook contained notes about various locations and bomb-making techniques, and that it is being examined as part of the investigation into the suspect’s network and possible associates.

Upper Kurram lies in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa along the border with Afghanistan, a region where security forces keep a close watch on cross-border movement. Security sources said the interrogation of Qari Waqas is continuing, and that further information about his network and other possible associates is being sought.

Kurram district, in the former Federally Administered Tribal Areas, has seen repeated security operations against militant groups operating near the Afghan border, and the arrest is the latest in a series of actions against cross-border infiltration in the area.
