Srinagar: The much-anticipated J&K Police Cycle Race-2026, titled “Pedal Through Paradise,” scheduled for Sunday, October 18, has been postponed, and traffic police have withdrawn the advisory that would have closed Boulevard Road and several adjoining routes in Srinagar, officials said.

According to the Kashmir News Observer (KNO), Traffic Police City Srinagar announced on October 16 that the cycling event had been postponed. “The traffic advisory issued in connection with the event stands withdrawn, and the notified traffic restrictions shall not be imposed,” the traffic department said in its advisory.

The race, organised by the Jammu and Kashmir Police, was to be held on two routes: from Lalit Ghat (Police Golf Course) to Nagbal Chowk via Foreshore Road, and from Lalit Ghat to Harwan via Shalimar. It was expected to draw cyclists along the scenic Boulevard Road skirting Dal Lake, one of the most popular stretches in the city.

Under the original plan, issued by Senior Superintendent of Police, Traffic City Srinagar, Bisma Qazi, general traffic on Boulevard Road from Lalit Ghat towards Harwan via Shalimar and from Lalit Ghat towards Pandach via Zakoora was to remain restricted from 5 am until the conclusion of the event on Sunday morning.

Detailed diversions had been notified for commuters. Motorists travelling from Harwan and New Theed were advised to use the Burzahama-Chandpora-Tailbal-Zakora-Malbagh-Illahibagh-90 Feet Road route, while those coming from Ganderbal and Nagbal towards Lal Chowk were asked to use the 90 Feet Soura Road. Restrictions were also planned at R.M. Bagh Crossing, Badyari, Dalgate, Nishat and Brien Police Station Crossing, with parking arranged at the Golf Course, Zabarwan Park and Nehru Park.

With the withdrawal of the advisory, commuters can now use Boulevard Road and the adjoining routes as normal on Sunday, and no diversions will be in force. Medical emergencies and motorists travelling to Srinagar Airport had already been exempted in the original plan and were permitted via the Foreshore-Dargah-Khanyar Road.

Traffic police have urged commuters to follow updates through official channels and avoid unnecessary confusion. For any assistance, citizens can contact the Traffic Police Control Room at 103, officials said.
